ABOUT DR.PLAYFAIR

After college in New York, medical school at East Tennessee State University and residency at the University of Virginia, Dr. Playfair worked briefly as a psychiatrist at a state hospital before beginning her private practice in Austin,Texas over 25 years ago. After a few years of practice and starting a family, she entered training at the Center for Psychoanalytic Studies in Houston and became a psychoanalyst. Dr. Playfair’s nonprofit work is consistently focused on education.

She is currently on faculty at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School and at the Center for Psychoanalytic Studies. Additionally she volunteers on committees at the analytic institute where she teaches as well as at the American Psychoanalytic Association. Past experiences have included serving on the board of the Austin Psychoanalytic where she developed the “Psychoanalytic Salons” programs, teaching medical residents at the UT Southwestern Medical Center and at the University of Virginia. She also provides a process group for the Jungian Student Texas Seminar as has created multiple 10-week supervision groups for mental health professionals in her home. She has given presentations in her field on local and national levels.

Her personal interests include travel, spending time with her family, learning to paint and hanging at the park with her dog.

ABOUT TARA

Tara Cochrane has a Bachelors Degree in Social Work and a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin. With a concentration in Administration and planning, her career focus was to make positive changes for children, families and the elderly though the education and court systems.

With over 20 years of administrative and management experience, Tara has worked in schools, universities, and various small businesses. Together – her and her husband ran a real estate business in the West Campus area.

She joined Dr.Playfair’s Psychiatry Practice in 2019 as a Patient Care Coordinator and Administrative Assistant. Her passion for helping people drives her personal and professional life.
